Boardman Country!

Where everyone’s entitled to MY opinion.

Wow! It feels like just about forever since I last posted even though it’s only been six days.

However, during those six days we moved significantly forward on the new care giving room. It’s all painted and today the new doors and trims are being installed. We seem to be headed for the home stretch with the necessary deadlines pretty easily achievable. So much for that update.

Another thing that happened during the past few days was an email from – now go slowly here – my wife’s mother’s brother’s son. He wrote to inform me that his daughter Kim is in the process of training to run in October’s Marine Marathon held in and around Washington, D.C.

She’s running the marathon with the… Team in Training program of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as a means of raising awareness about blood cancers and of raising research dollars with an eye toward finding a cure.

Here’s a bit of Kim’s passion for this cause:

When I was in nursing school at the University of Iowa, I had the chance to do one of my clinical rotations in Oncology. The patients I cared for on this unit were incredibly strong and inspirational, and I will definitely be keeping them in mind when I am running the 26.2 miles.

All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line – a cure!

Now, again, Kim’s dad Roy came to me to see whether I’d be willing to spread the word about her involvement in the upcoming 26.2 mile race. Actually, Kim is willing and able to handle the physical part of showing up and running her guts out.

What she needs from each of us is just a Starbuck’s or two worth of dinero to see that she meets the race’s monetary benchmarks. She’s really got just a short way to go within the next eleven days if a bunch of us will get behind her and push a little.

So there you have it folks. This isn’t a sales letter, just a simple request for minimal assistance – from a whole lot of people!

That number once again is 1 800 StepUpStompOn! – leukemia, that is.

Make yourself at home,
